Prospector's trail

Went on a trail called the Prospector's Trail today. A relatively short day hike. A few steep spots and some amazing views of the town of Idaho Springs. There are two old mine holes on it. The first one pictured here is an open pit still. Be very careful. It was a ways down. Hard to imagine the miners digging through the rock. The second pit was filled in and was only found by the orange tailings pile and a sunken area currently filled with snow.

Bike ride!

Finally deemed it warm enough to get our bikes out. Went for a spin down to town and back down our bike trail along the creek. stopped into the Forest Service office looked at maps and asked questions about hiking trails. Gotta keep them busy! lol, the were very knowledgeable people. there is a hiking trail behind them we went on for a bit. Will have to finish it another day. It has a great over look of town. Found out on the way home that we live on a very loonng slow hill! lol. on the way back the wind decided to blow. that makes it harder to ride uphill! come on cut us a break! Oh Well, It was a wonderful sunny day for a bike ride.

Amish Farmer

An Amish farmer, walking through his field, notices a man kneeling down and drinking from his farm pond. The Amish farmer shouts, "Trink das wasser nicht. Die kuhen haben dahin gesheissen."(Which means: "Don't drink the water, the cows poop in it".) The kneeling man shouts back, angrily, "I'm a Muslim, I don't understand you.I speak Arabic and English. If you can't speak in the sacred tongue of Islam, speak to me in English." The Amish farmer replies, "Use two hands, you'll get more."

Telemarketers and junkmail

Tips for Handling Telemarketers
Three Little Words That Work!!(1)The three little words are: 'Hold On, Please...' Saying this, while putting down your phone and walking off (instead of hanging-up immediately) would make each telemarketing call so much more time-consuming that boiler room sales would grind to a halt. Then when you eventually hear the phone company's 'beep-beep-beep' tone, you know it's time to go back and hang up your handset, which has efficiently completed its task. These three little words will help eliminate telephone soliciting.
(2) Do you ever get those annoying phone calls with no one on the other end? This is a telemarketing technique where a machine makes phone calls and records the time of day when a person answers the phone. This technique is used to determine the best time of day for a 'real'sales person to call back and get someone at home. What you can do after answering, if you notice there is no one there, is to immediately start hitting your # button on the phone, 6 or 7 times, as quickly as possible. This confuses the machine that dialed the call and it kicks your number out of their system. Gosh, what a shame not to have your name in their system any longer!!!
(3) Junk Mail Help: When you get 'ads' enclosed with your phone or utility bill, return these 'ads' with your payment. Let the sending companies throw their own junk mail away. When you get those 'pre-approved' letters in the mail for everything from credit cards to 2nd mortgages and similar type junk, do not throw away the return envelope. Most of these come with postage-paid return envelopes, right? It costs them more than the regular 50 cents postage 'IF' and when they receive them back. It costs them nothing if you throw them away! The postage was around 50 cents before the last increase and it is according to the weight. In that case, why not get rid of some of your other junk mail and put it in these cool little, postage-paid return envelopes. One of Andy Rooney's (60 minutes) ideas. Send an ad for your local chimney cleaner to American Express. Send a pizza coupon to Citibank. If you didn't get anything else that day, then just send them their blank application back! If you want to remain anonymous, just make sure your name isn't on anything you send them. You can even send the envelope back empty if you want to just to keep them guessing! It still costs them 50 cents. The banks and credit card companies are currently getting a lot of their own junk back in the mail, but folks, we need to OVERWHELM them. Let's let them know what it's like to get lots of junk mail, and best of all, they're paying for it...Twice! Let's help keep our postal service busy since they are saying that e-mail is cutting into their business profits, and that's why they need to increase postage costs again.
You get the idea !If enough people follow these tips, it will work ---- I have been doing this for years, and I get very little junk mail anymore.

Biker poem

When I was a Biker...

I saw you pull your child closer when we passed each other on the sidewalk.
But you didn't see me playing Santa at the local mall.

I saw you change your mind about going into the restaurant.
But you didn't see me attending a meeting to raise more money for the hurricane relief.

I saw you roll up your window and shake your head when I drove by.
But you didn't see me driving behind you when you flicked your cigarette butt out the car window.

I saw you frown at me when I smiled at your children.
But you didn't see me when I took time off from work to run toys to the homeless.

I saw you stare at my long hair.
But you didn't see me and my friends cut ten inches off for Locks of Love.

I saw you roll your eyes at our leather coats and gloves.
But you didn't see me and my brothers donate our old coats and gloves to those that had none.

I saw you look in fright at my tattoos.
But you didn't see me cry as my children where born and have their name
written over and in my heart.

I saw you change lanes while rushing off to go somewhere.
But you didn't see me going home to be with my family.

I saw you complain about how loud and noisy our bikes can be.
But you didn't see me when you were changing the CD and drifted into my lane.

I saw you yelling at your kids in the car.
But you didn't see me pat my child's hands, knowing he was safe behind me.

I saw you reading the newspaper or map as you drove down the road.
But you didn't see me squeeze my wife's leg when she told me to take the next turn.

I saw you race down the road in the rain.
But you didn't see me get soaked to the skin so my son could have the car to go on his date.

I saw you run the yellow light just to save a few minutes of time.
But you didn't see me trying to turn right

I saw you cut me off because you needed to be in the lane I was in.
But you didn't see me leave the road.

I saw you waiting impatiently for my friends to pass.
But you didn't see me. I wasn't there.

I saw you go home to your family.
But you didn't see me. Because, I died that day you cut me off.

I WAS JUST A BIKER; A person with friends and a family.
But you didn't see me.

Tava

"Everyone has a to-do list. Usually, a checklist of chores. Post office, Dry Cleners. Take the kids to piano lessons. Maybe instead of making a list of what we have to during the day, we can make a list of what we want to do during out life. Learn Italian, cook Thai, ride a motorcycle across Mongolia. How much more fun would this list be? So go ahead. Make a life list. Is your Tava open?"

flat tire...

how many police cars does it take to SUPERVISE a flat tire change in Denver? 2 - traffic was backed up to day On I70 for a couple of miles as a car that had a flat was pulled off onto the emergency shoulder. 2 police cars were parked in the right driving lane. one blocked traffic for the tire change. the other guy just supervised while the car owner changed it.
- thanks for listening to my rant for the day.

out for walk

went for a stroll today. the weather was so nice today. sunny with only a light breeze. just walked down the road we live on today. still to much snow on the hill behind us to try going up there. took a quick snap shot as I heard dogs barking nearby and am not sure I want to see how well their owners are following the leash law... and with my luck my bear spray would get sprayed back at me with the wind! so after the click of the shutter - grab the camera and get on back down the road toward home.

Arizona horses

Saw some of the wild burros and this small band of horses. the burros kept their distance. They had a baby with them. These horses moved by quickly but didn't seem to concerned about us as they walked right next to the Jeep. They were not shoed, So we think they are wild.

Vacation in Arizona

Took a quick Vacation to Arizona. T's sister & hubby live there. Did some four wheeling, can shooting and saw some wild burr

os and horses. lots of cacti. Was surprised at how green things are right now. But that means high fire dangers when it dries up this summer.

What's in a hole?

Discovery along the trail... any one care to stick your hand in that tree and see what happens? Anyone, anyone...

Well, turns out there was something in there after all! Sorry guys! Looks like a bird nest of some sort...

Mt Evans Wilderness Area

Went hiking nearby today. It was a beautiful sunny and warm day. This trail system goes all over so we have just begun. Made it to a summit that had some good views. Very windy at the summits. Mt Evans its self is closed for the winter... there is a road going to the top. This spring I'd like to get up there to see the baby mountain goats and big horn sheep. We'll check this one as a hike we'd do again.

Southern California

Finally saw the Pacific ocean! We were in Southern California this last week. This is early in the morning.. just before another rain storm comes in again. It was really nice to see. Fresh smelling, not like dead fish. But, this is winter. The Great Lakes smell like dead fish in the summer.

Today's rantings..

Friday November 16th... I said Friday NOVEMBER 16th
3 different radio stations... 3 different CHRISTMAS SONGS!
granted -- I like the Christmas season. But, It seems to start earlier every year. I see the garland and trinkets out with the Halloween stuff. What ever happened to the days when you didn't hear the songs until the day after Thanksgiving!!?? Atleast then we are still hung over from all the turkey to care quite so much!

Full moon

was in Grand Junction CO Thursday night. caught the full moon rising over the book cliffs. was quite big! a very bright night. driving on full moon nights is always a favorite. Snowmobiling was a favorite, but alas, I no longer have one. now I just drive on tires.

Pumpkins Galore!

Went to the pumpking patch with D&D and the girls. wandering the fields.. in search of the perfect pumpkin... or the great pumpkin! D's girls are younger than P, and much more high strung. no suger added for them! lol, lots of fun and energy in the patch. It was a nice sunny day to start. clouds and wind build later in the day. a passing storm again. We all drive from field to field. five acres all together. D went down a little used path and almost got his truck stuck. thank goodness for four wheel drive. got a little mud on the tires. :) Well we picked out our pumpkins. the kids finally got it limited to one each. That is always a challenge. :) Then home ward to carve them out!

our first snow in October

the snow finally came, all light and fluffy looking. I still do like the first snow. We are at about 8100 feet elevation here. so I bet we'll get a lot of snow. although last weekend Denver had a wet heavy snow and we again seemed to be in a bubble and had none.

Sorry so long...

Well, what a last couple of months! School starts, we move, my father in law passes away, then we decide to put P in a different school. and finally I have internet again!

Sweet Corn

Mmm, had some of the seasons first ears tonight. I love it when it's fresh and sweet. Always a bummer to get it home and cooked only to find it is chewy. Fresh and crisp, that's the best.

August and everything after...

August is winding down... another 99 degree day. tomorrow will be a change of pace. 70 and T storms. This is the rainy season here. it's scattered showers mostly. P is back in class. high school now. My how time flies. She says in some of her classes, she is the only freshmen. I told her not to worry. soon enough the tides will be turned. Senior year comes up fast.
Remember when....

Harry Potter

I finished the book... Not exactly as I thought it would go. But a good story overall. Lots of action. Stop in your local Library on your back road.. :)

Saturday, August 11, 2007

HARRY!!

lol, P has finished the last Harry Potter book.... Now it's my turn to read it. She has been sworn to secrecy. You should read the series... go to the library in disguise... I won't tell. :)

Observe

Sometimes I am not very Observant. Yesterday I was out back watering my flowers and the neighbor came out her back porch checked her grill and went back in. I said "hello"
She smiled and went in. a few drops of water later i realized I hadn't seen her before.
I went out front to pull some weeds.. There was a different car in the driveway and a guy pulling out a dent from the front panel. "Home mechanics". I went inside and asked P when the old neighbors moved out and we got new ones??!! She said last week. She said they brought in a moving van and moved in one day. Wow, that's got to be a record I'm thinking. I will have to find them again and take some notes!

Fishing for Squirrels

It's the newest rage in animal population management..
really it is!

Tropical paradise??

Looks like white sandy beaches, huh!?! And though the water was very warm, in the 90's I think.. This wasn't the Carribean. This is in western Utah! Near the Bonneville salt flats. The white stuff is salt. Went by here with T about a month ago and it was solid salt. It has rained a lot there recently so now there is water again. neat. While we were here resting our toes in the warm waters... We met a real Carribean native. He was passing through the area and had heard about it and had to see for himself. A very nice fellow. Great accent too! He couldn't believe how salty the water was. He said he lives in the ocean and there is still life in it. Here it is too salty. I waded out a bit and got him some water and salt to take home with him. :) Such the good samaritian I am.

Bon Jovi

Well, it's been a couple of weeks and my ears have finally quit ringing. lol! Standing room only...
I found out what that means! Good Times all around.
Now I'm ready to go at it again :)
