our first snow in October

the snow finally came, all light and fluffy looking. I still do like the first snow. We are at about 8100 feet elevation here. so I bet we'll get a lot of snow. although last weekend Denver had a wet heavy snow and we again seemed to be in a bubble and had none.

Sorry so long...

Well, what a last couple of months! School starts, we move, my father in law passes away, then we decide to put P in a different school. and finally I have internet again!

Sweet Corn

Mmm, had some of the seasons first ears tonight. I love it when it's fresh and sweet. Always a bummer to get it home and cooked only to find it is chewy. Fresh and crisp, that's the best.

August and everything after...

August is winding down... another 99 degree day. tomorrow will be a change of pace. 70 and T storms. This is the rainy season here. it's scattered showers mostly. P is back in class. high school now. My how time flies. She says in some of her classes, she is the only freshmen. I told her not to worry. soon enough the tides will be turned. Senior year comes up fast.
Remember when....

Harry Potter

I finished the book... Not exactly as I thought it would go. But a good story overall. Lots of action. Stop in your local Library on your back road.. :)

HARRY!!

lol, P has finished the last Harry Potter book.... Now it's my turn to read it. She has been sworn to secrecy. You should read the series... go to the library in disguise... I won't tell. :)

Observe

Sometimes I am not very Observant. Yesterday I was out back watering my flowers and the neighbor came out her back porch checked her grill and went back in. I said "hello"
She smiled and went in. a few drops of water later i realized I hadn't seen her before.
I went out front to pull some weeds.. There was a different car in the driveway and a guy pulling out a dent from the front panel. "Home mechanics". I went inside and asked P when the old neighbors moved out and we got new ones??!! She said last week. She said they brought in a moving van and moved in one day. Wow, that's got to be a record I'm thinking. I will have to find them again and take some notes!

Fishing for Squirrels

It's the newest rage in animal population management..
really it is!

Tropical paradise??

Looks like white sandy beaches, huh!?! And though the water was very warm, in the 90's I think.. This wasn't the Carribean. This is in western Utah! Near the Bonneville salt flats. The white stuff is salt. Went by here with T about a month ago and it was solid salt. It has rained a lot there recently so now there is water again. neat. While we were here resting our toes in the warm waters... We met a real Carribean native. He was passing through the area and had heard about it and had to see for himself. A very nice fellow. Great accent too! He couldn't believe how salty the water was. He said he lives in the ocean and there is still life in it. Here it is too salty. I waded out a bit and got him some water and salt to take home with him. :) Such the good samaritian I am.

Bon Jovi

Well, it's been a couple of weeks and my ears have finally quit ringing. lol! Standing room only...
I found out what that means! Good Times all around.
Now I'm ready to go at it again :)

Endless sands

on the road again... going with T to New Mexio. Endless gravelly sandy beach like settings... with no water/ocean in sight. Hmmmm. .. I think I'm getting this beach theme vacation idea wrong.
lol, I'll send pictures as soon as I get them down loaded.

California or Bust...

I finally made it up and OVER the mountain! T & I went to California via Vegas last week. It was a fun road trip. Though he was on business and I for pleasure. So we did some quick sight seeing. No gambling. Neither of us has any luck with it. Went through the desert on a horse with no name.. :).. saw real palm trees. it was hot - and it's true that it's a different kind of heat. We saw the world's tallest thermometer, and it read 104. Cool for the desert is what I hear. Well, it was 94 the next day on the way home. Cold front going through. After we made it out of the desert and up the pass and down into the outskirts of LA.. we finally encounter fog? So the sky clouded up and I could barley see an outline of the mountains ... no blue sky or ocean view. T says it's that way every time he comes here. He's never been on a blue clear sky day like on TV. ... I could smell the salt air from wear we stopped for the night. So all was not lost. maybe next time we'll see the ocean. All and All a fun trip.

Bike trips

A Dairy Queen has opened in our town. :) and it's on the bike path. Took a ride the other day and stopped in for a Banana Creame Pie Blizzard. Oh Yea, it's sinful. But hey, we split it and we worked it off! Highly recommend you try one of these. Mmm Yum!

Ghost towns II

Anyway, back to ghost towns that really are. Nevadaville is about 2 miles from Central City...and Apex is about 6 miles back in the trees. Both are private property so exploring isn't really an option. It would be neat to own one of the buildings and restore it. Looks like some people are doing just that in some of these old
towns...

Ghost towns

Cemeteries... and the towns that go with them. Central city is town that is still very much alive.. Casinos keep it's heart beating today. There is plenty of old buildings/history still there to see. Nearby Nevadaville has not been so lucky. There are just a few homes left and some of the old stores. It looks like the town is for sale if anyone wants to buy it! Though I read some where that the town of Central City cut off its' water supply and that's why the town didn't make it. Killing off the competition. They are only about 2 miles apart. I Guess Central is luck Black Hawk hasn't done something like this yet. Or maybe they have... Black Hawk has the bigger and newer casinos .. only 1 mile down the road. .. lol, sounds like sibling rivalry.

Old cemetaries

Another hobby of mine... cemetaries of old....

on one of our trips we have discovered the Central City Cemetary...

More on owls...

This may be the last posting of my baby owls for a while. They are getting bigger... and so are the leaves on the tree they are in. It's getting hard to find them now. This picture is about two weeks ago. I've been over since, but can't get a clear picture angle in the leaves. have to wait till the start flying!

Baby owls

The little fluff balls are still there. Survived the wind/thunder storms we had earlier this week.

Weekend Hiking trip

a hiking we will go... a hiking we will go...

I had a beautifully sunny and warm weekend. went hiking at a near by trail system. Nothing grand about this area but it's nice to be out in the sun again!
