Silence is Deafening
I now know the meaning of this...
T & I went snow shoeing on Friday. Went to the park and hiked up Flat top mountain... 12,000 something I think is the elevation on this one... It's up there any way. At an overlook at about 10,000 feet I notice I lost my water bottle.. This isn't good. But we can see the top of the mountain...It looks close! We rest and trudge up...And up...Snow is looking good now.
The trees are getting down to my height... I succum to thirst and eat the snow...It's white! I'm thinking at this point I don't really care about stomach cramps and the big D...
Around 11,000 feet is tree line. The trail just ends here.. Well, it may go on but under the snow and wind whipped surface, we can't see any more tracks. The trees are shrubs at our feet here. Look up and see the top of the mountain. It looks soo close. We trudge up after taking our snow shoes off. It's all rocky here. Bushes are not safe to walk on... Lesson learned. I stepped on one and sunk down passed my knee. 'Shoes back on. Screw the rocks. We look up, and back down at where the trail disappeared. We seem no closer to the top. Well, it appears that last 1000 feet of elevation will have to wait. We're both getting dizzy. And I'm going to have a nervous break down if I fall through one more bush! The sun is setting in an hour or so...It's five miles back down to the trail head. So we stand here..Looking out over the vista. Noticing there is endless blue sky. And no wind. It is so quiet your ears ring.
The view is incredible...We'll be back...

That is so beautiful. Bummer you couldn't make it quite to the top, but you look pretty high. Did you smooch anyway? Hopefully you get to take us up it one day.
